It’s a 3D Model, what’s the difference?

Land planning and design is highly driven by the need for schematic designs, but understanding the best methods and tools to reflect these schemes can be daunting. Technology continues to advance at an accelerated rate and we must stay up to speed on these changes in order to most appropriately accomplish the task at hand. 3D technologies have emerged over the past two decades increasing our ability to create stunning images of our visions, but are we using the tools correctly?

Seeing the Future: Three Tools for Visualizing Change in Your Town

Architects’ models and line drawings used to be the only tools we had to help us visualize a proposed building or major streetscaping project. These days, a host of high-tech tools can help us see the changes in 3-D, compare scenarios, fly or walk through a mock-up of the new design, and even interact with a model through an avatar.

6th International Visualization In Transportation Symposium

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is sponsoring 6th International Visualization in Transportation Symposium on August 20-23, 2011, in Chicago, Illinois. The symposium is designed to highlight improving technologies and methods, feature case studies or successful practices, and illuminate the expanding role of visualization in transportation planning, design, construction, maintenance, and data management and analysis.
