Community Guidelines

Please consider registering as a member of EngagingCities -- it’s free!  In your submitted content and comments, we ask that you abide by the following guidelines.  Primary rule of thumb: play nice!

Please do:

Help us move the conversation forward and make EngagingCities an empowering community where everyone is inspired to learn, grow, experiment, and speak their mind.  To that end, we encourage you to:

  • Inform us about new developments or information you may have about a subject we’ve covered.
  • Share links that connect the article or post to another within EngagingCities -- we like to observe emerging patterns or relationships between ideas.
  • Correct us if you find a factual error -- we hope you won’t find many, but we love to fix mistakes!
  • Share your opinion even if it sparks debate -- that’s how ideas and methods are refined.  Just remember to speak like you’re face-to-face with a human being.
  • Be witty or earnest, heartfelt or humorous, factual or theoretical -- we welcome all styles and attitudes to add spice and variety.

Please don’t:

Say things that will cause the moderators to feel they must delete or edit your content.  Our goal is for EngagingCities to be a supportive gathering place where all are entitled to their opinions.  To that end, we ask that you do not:

  • Be offensive -- this includes anything that would belittle someone on account of race, religion, physical characteristics, and so forth.  Also, remember that profanity may lower the impact of your comment and the respect people have for you.
  • Insult or threaten -- it doesn’t help, and really lowers the IQ of the discussion.  Name-calling, even in mild forms, is below the standard of what we like to maintain for this community.
  • Violate privacy or share personal information about someone without their knowledge and consent.  If you have a personal disagreement with someone who posts here, take it up with them privately -- this isn’t the place.
  • Spam.  Boilerplate text or links that self-promote without adding value to the conversation are not welcome.  Relevant, awesome projects that you are working on -- we’d love to hear about them!

We truly can’t wait to hear from you.  If you have questions about our guidelines or feel your content has been unjustly deleted, you can contact us(link) to talk things over.  Nicely, of course.
